AMIGOS
Creo que lo primero es la amistad y juventud. Yo solo saco la cámara cuando estoy con mis amigos, generalmente cuando salimos de joda. Trato de captar esos momentos únicos y graciosos de mis amigos que se dan durante, antes y después de la fiesta. Siento que mis fotos transmiten mi realidad y las de mis amigos. Mis fotos no son premeditadas ni planificadas, yo saco espontáneamente lo que me parezca y para tener recuerdos de lo que realmente fue mi juventud.
I think the first things are friendship and youth. I only take out the camera when I’m with my friends, usually when we go out partying. I try to capture those unique and funny moments with my friends that happen during, before, and after the party. I feel that my photos convey my reality and that of my friends. My photos aren’t premeditated or planned; I shoot spontaneously, capturing whatever catches my eye, to keep memories of what my youth really was.
Personalmente lo que más asocio a la juventud son los amigos. Es una etapa de tu vida muy transformativa donde te convertís en adulto y en la persona que queres ser. Y bueno creo que la gente con la que más tiempo pasas, generalmente tus amigos, son los que más te marcan e impactan quien sos.
Personally, what I associate most with youth is friends. It’s a very transformative stage of life where you become an adult and the person you want to be. And I believe that the people you spend the most time with, usually your friends, are the ones who shape and impact who you are the most.
Te diría que lo principal es el futuro. Cuando veo todas las fotos que saque pienso quienes vamos a ser en un futuro, si voy a tener el mismo vínculo con todos o si siquiera van a seguir siendo parte de mi vida. Para mi siempre el futuro fue una temática que me generó mucha ansiedad. Va ser muy gracioso en 20, 40 años mirar todas las fotos que tengo y recordar lo que fue esta etapa de mi vida.
I’d say the main one is the future. When I look at all the photos I’ve taken, I wonder who we will become in the future, whether I’ll have the same bond with everyone or if they’ll even still be part of my life. For me, the future has always been a theme that generates a lot of anxiety. It’s going to be very funny in 20 or 40 years to look back at all these photos and remember what this stage of my life was like.
La verdad que honestamente no me considero un artista ni soy muy culto en el ambiente, así que no te podría decir quien me inspiró. Lo que sí te puedo decir es como empecé a sacar fotos. Básicamente, me copie de una amiga que llevó una cámara digital a un viaje y nada me pareció muy copado. Así que, volví a casa y encontré una cámara que era de mi vieja y así arranque.
Honestly, I don't really consider myself an artist, nor am I very knowledgeable about the art world, so I couldn’t say who inspired me. But I can tell you how I started taking photos. Basically, I copied a friend who brought a digital camera on a trip, and I thought it was really cool. So, when I got back home, I found a camera that belonged to my mom, and that’s how I got started.
Me gustaría que la gente se quede con lo divertido que es ser joven. Tener la posibilidad de juntarte con tus amigos, salir de joda, conocer gente nueva y pasarla bien. Digo “posibilidad“ porque todavía no tenemos todas las responsabilidades que conlleva ser un adulto y en un futuro ya no vamos a poder hacer estas cosas tan libremente. Justamente por eso hay que disfrutar y aprovechar al máximo esta etapa, y también sacar muchas fotos en el proceso.
I’d like people to take away how fun it is to be young. Having the opportunity to hang out with friends, go partying, meet new people, and have a good time. I say “opportunity” because we still don’t have all the responsibilities that come with being an adult, and in the future, we won’t be able to do these things as freely. That’s exactly why we need to enjoy and make the most of this stage—and also take lots of photos along the way.
Yo creo que la mejor herramienta para poder concretar esto son las redes sociales. Un gran ejemplo es lo que hicieron ustedes con Archivium. Poder darle un espacio gratuito a pequeños artistas donde se pueden expresar y compartir su trabajo al mundo es muy valioso. Otro ejemplo de una gran iniciativa son las páginas de ig dedicadas a la fotografía. Varias personas que conozco, incluyéndome, tenemos páginas de instagram donde exclusivamente subimos nuestras fotos.
I believe that the best tool to achieve this is social media. A great example is what you’ve done with Archivium—providing a free space for small artists to express themselves and share their work with the world is very valuable. Another example of a great initiative is Instagram pages dedicated to photography. Several people I know, including myself, have Instagram pages where we exclusively upload our photos.
