Entre el Caos y la Calma

Capturing records of my friends and people I have met over time and across cities. Trying to show them in the most authentic moments of our youth, with the chaos and calm that it entails.

INTERVIEW

What do you find within your artistic vision?

I find a space where I can express myself. A place where I can feel a part of and, in some way, enough. It all started as a game that led me to find a new way of looking around and paying attention to details that I hadn't noticed before.
I am fascinated by observing shadows and somewhat strange shapes so that I can play with them.

Is there any symbol or object that you associate with the idea of youth?

When I think of youth, I can't pinpoint a specific symbol. What comes to mind is that what I capture about youth is what I experience. The majority of the people who surround me and inspire me to a certain extent. I am interested in seeing how people dance, cry, celebrate. They laugh, drink, and to me, that seems the most authentic. I wouldn't know how to identify a particular object; I think it's youth itself in essence. It's like the ambiguity of youth as a concept. From observing a piece of art in a German basement to a hug from my friends at a party.
I believe that if I could better describe youth, I might not spend so much time trying to understand how it affects me and wanting to capture it. I am very aware that my youth is very different from that of many other people, and I want to clarify this because when I talk about youth, it is from my perspective. That's why I have often wondered if a portrait represents it "fairly".

How would you like the public to perceive your work?

Something very fundamental for me is to be able to convey the reality in which I live and the beauty of the cities I travel through in my life, whether in Buenos Aires or Dresden. In front of the public, I like my photos to have a positive impact, but I think that today, it doesn't influence me as much as it would have when I started with photography. I believe that nowadays, no one values their work as much as oneself.

How do you navigate being an emerging artist in the cities/countries you've been to?

Buenos Aires is like the city for being an emerging artist because it has everything. Concerts, color, culture, parties—there is so much to be inspired by, and fortunately, I am not someone who finds it difficult to go somewhere and take out the camera, especially since we are in a time when that activity is quite normalized. At any event, there is always someone taking photos, so those spaces also help you lose a bit of shyness.
In Dresden, Germany, it's quite challenging for several reasons. One of them is the language barrier and the embarrassment that photographing strangers is not as normalized. Even so, I am fascinated to be able to show my work  about Germany to the argentinian people. Mostly being able to show how’s life in Dresden.

Do you believe there is a democratic culture in art?

I have experienced the democratization of artistic spaces a lot. I started taking photos with a digital camera from 2010, and today it is still my main medium. I can use it everywhere, and when places began to call me for work, they didn't care about the camera model but about my vision. I do believe that elitism when it comes to creating equipment is something that exists and needs to be deconstructed because there are many ways to showcase a photograph without resorting to the latest model camera.
Also, fortunately, there are much broader ways to show your art today. You don't need to be selected by a magazine to share it or have it hung in an art gallery. Therefore, I think that today, having access creates artistic expression channels that are much broader.
