Lo que asocio principalmente con la juventud son los amigos, la gente que está con nosotros y nos ayudan, consciente o inconscientemente, a formarnos a nosotros mismos. Tengo el orgullo de decir que estoy rodeado de gente buena, la cual me ayuda a mejorar como persona y mejor aún como fotógrafo. Me gusta ser la persona que saca las fotos, ya que, les estoy compartiendo a las personas mi propia visión de lo que observo. En mi trabajo hay fotos en un campo y en distintos eventos sociales, siempre rodeado de gente cercana a mi y a la cual quiero retratar para que quede para siempre el recuerdo de que alguna vez estuvimos ahí y que las demás personas puedan ver el dia de mañana las fotos y poder recordar esas experiencias de una forma gratificante y nostálgica.
What I primarily associate with youth are friends, the people who are with us and help us, consciously or unconsciously, to shape ourselves. I am proud to say that I am surrounded by good people who help me improve as a person and even more so as a photographer. I enjoy being the person who takes the photos because I am sharing my own vision of what I observe with others. In my work, there are photos in a field and at different social events, always surrounded by people close to me and whom I want to portray so that the memory of us being there remains forever, and so that others can see the photos tomorrow and remember those experiences in a rewarding and nostalgic way.
Lo que me surge principalmente al retratar a la juventud, tiene que ver con esa mirada de la que hablaba previamente al ver mi trabajo. Me da mucha curiosidad pensar en qué opiniones y recuerdos voy a tener en el futuro al ver las fotos de vuelta. Me gusta pensar que a pesar de que la vida siga avanzando y que probablemente de aquí a uno, cinco o diez años, podré seguir viendo las fotos y seguiré pudiendo recordar esas fotos y experiencias de esa forma tan gratificante y nostálgica que las veo ahora mismo. También intento no pensar solamente en el futuro, aunque me cuesta. Disfrutar el aquí y el ahora siento que es lo que le da esa magia a la juventud y de cierta forma es lo que la hace distinguirse del resto de las cosas. Si se estuviese pensando constantemente en el futuro o el pasado, perdería la gracia disfrutar el ahora y no sacaría más fotos, con la excusa del para qué hacerlo. Darle importancia al presente me parece algo fundamental y más en la juventud.
What primarily arises for me when portraying youth relates to that perspective I mentioned earlier when looking at my work. I'm very curious to think about what opinions and memories I'll have in the future when I look back at the photos. I like to think that despite life moving forward and probably in one, five, or ten years from now, I'll still be able to look at the photos and continue to remember those photos and experiences in the same rewarding and nostalgic way I see them right now. I also try not to only think about the future, although it's challenging for me. Enjoying the here and now is what I feel gives youth its magic and in a way sets it apart from other things. If one were constantly thinking about the future or the past, it would lose the charm of enjoying the present, and I wouldn't take any more photos, with the excuse of why bother. Giving importance to the present seems fundamental to me, especially in youth.
Uso una cámara analógica ya que siento que me trae una experiencia totalmente diferente a la que me da una cámara digital o el celular. Teniendo las tres herramientas puedo decir que hay una diferencia enorme. La cámara analógica me obliga a no querer equivocarme. Saber que tengo nada más entre 28 y 32 fotos para sacar en un rollo me fuerza a querer hacer mi mejor trabajo posible y cuando elijo finalmente a qué o quién le quiero sacar una foto me tomo el tiempo para que salga lo mejor posible. Otro encanto de lo analógico es que no podes ver el resultado de forma instantánea, algo a lo que estamos muy acostumbrados hoy en día y a lo cual me gusta tener ese cambio e incertidumbre para cuando revele el rollo. He tenido rollos que me han durado por meses y nunca hay mejor sensación que cuando te llegan las fotos reveladas. Te teletransportas instantáneamente a cada situación y lugar en donde sacaste la foto. Tener la chance de sorprender a mis amigos con fotos que fueron sacadas hace tiempo es algo que me fascina.
I use a film camera because I feel it brings me a completely different experience compared to a digital camera or a cellphone. Having all three tools, I can say there's a huge difference. The film camera forces me not to want to make mistakes. Knowing I only have between 28 and 32 photos to take on a roll makes me strive to do my best work possible. When I finally choose what or who I want to photograph, I take the time to make it come out as best as possible. Another charm of analog photography is that you can't see the result instantly, something we're very accustomed to nowadays, and I like having that change and uncertainty when I develop the roll. I've had rolls that have lasted for months, and there's no better feeling than when you receive the developed photos. You instantly teleport to each situation and place where you took the photo. Having the chance to surprise my friends with photos taken some time ago is something that fascinates me.
Me gustaría que el público viese mi trabajo de la misma forma que lo veo yo.
Por más que no compartan mis recuerdos quiero que el público pueda observar lo que hago y sentirse identificado de cierta forma, pensando en si vivieron una experiencia similar o si algún día les gustaría hacer algo así.
I would like the public to see my work in the same way that I do. Even if they don't share my memories, I want the audience to be able to observe what I do and feel identified in some way, thinking about whether they have lived a similar experience or if they would like to do something like that someday.
Hoy en día con las redes sociales y los dispositivos digitales tenemos la ventaja de que todo puede ser compartido de forma rápida. Darle la oportunidad a artistas, por más de que no sean expertos ni profesionales, genera distintas visiones del arte, lo cual me parece una idea fenomenal y encantadora.
Today, with social media and digital devices, we have the advantage that everything can be shared quickly. Giving artists the opportunity, even if they are not experts or professionals, generates different visions of art, which I think is a phenomenal and charming idea.
