This quest is punctuated by a fervent zeal to be heard and a relentless thirst to carve out an existence in a world predominantly inclined towards consumption.
With voices echoing with passion and actions reflecting candor, these young individuals strive to assert their vibrance and sincerity in a landscape that often overlooks the subtleties of their dreams and aspirations.
Me recibí de la escuela de arte hace algún tiempo. Aprendí fotografía en la escuela de arte y después de eso, solo quería viajar. No estaba pensando en sacar fotos o hacer dibujos ni nada de eso. Realmente quería viajar. Quería viajar tanto como fuera posible. De hecho, justo después de recibirme, me prometí viajar a diferentes países al menos un mes al año. Eso fue cuando tenía 20 años, algo así. Y eso fue lo que hice.
Al viajar, solo quería comunicarme con la gente, En el primer viaje que hice, no estaba muy interesado en tomar fotos, solo en conocer gente. Pero poco a poco, comencé a tomar fotos.
Así que, primero el amor por la fotografía, luego conocer gente de todo el mundo, y especialmente a los jóvenes de diferentes países. Por eso realmente quería unirme al proyecto porque fue mi primera motivación en ese momento.
Lo que pasa con la juventud es que quería viajar porque solo quería descubrir el mundo. Mi propósito era tener el tiempo y necesitar conocer a muchas personas diferentes que sean muy diferentes de mí.
Quería viajar lejos y a lugares complicados cuando era joven porque después es diferente. Y es diferente porque no puedes conocer al mismo tipo de personas.
Y así comencé a revisar mis fotos y empezar a trabajar con ellas sólo hace cinco o seis años.
Desde finales del año pasado y comienzos de este (2024) , estoy trabajando mucho en mis fotografías. Discutiendo mucho con personas y generando algo de eso. Y por eso creo que su energía es tan importante hoy en día por qué es muy poderosa y muy diferente del resto, por qué cuando empecé, eran los comienzos del internet.
So I graduated from art school some time ago. So it's been some time. I learned photography in art school. And after that, I just wanted to travel. I was not thinking about taking photos or drawings or whatever. But I really wanted to travel. I wanted to travel as much as possible. In fact, right after I graduated, I promised myself to travel to different countries at least one month a year. That was when I was 20 years old, something like that. And that's what I did.
And then traveling, I just wanted to communicate with people first. Th first travel I did, I was not too much into taking photos, but just meeting people. But little by little, I began to take pictures.
So it's, you know, first the love of photography, then meeting people around the world, and especially the youth of different countries. That's why I really wanted to come to your project because that was my first motivation at that time.
The thing with youth is I wanted to travel because I just wanted to discover the world. My purpose was, okay, I have the time, I need to meet a lot of different people which very different from me.
I wanted to travel far and complicated when I was young because after, it's different. And it's different because you cannot meet the same kind of people.
I began to check my photos and do something with photos only five years or six years ago.
Since the end of last year and this year, I'm working a lot on my picture. I'm discussing with a lot of people and I'm doing something with it. And I think the energy you have today is something super, super important. It's super powerful, in fact, very different from before, because, when I started, it was really the beginning of Internet.
Era muy interesante entender lo que estaba pasando con las personas que para mí, eran extranjeras. Y los jóvenes, especialmente en Bangladesh, tenían mucha energía y fueron muy amables (por más que creo que fue más fácil para mí por el simple hecho de ser hombre).
Pero era una juventud que era consciente sobre lo que ocurría en el mundo, constantemente produciendo. Fue el comienzo de un entendimeinto de una generación que tenía mucho para decir. Energía para comunicar y fue muy fuerte volver a las fotos y a esa juventud. Previo al internet, la juventud era una comprendida desde la religión, algunos hasta partícipes de la revolución separatista entre Bangladesh y Pakistan.
En la fotografía de los hombres en blanco y negro surge de una manifestación. Ellos me miran a la cara y sólo hablaron y se expresaron.
En otra fotografía hay una hermana y un hermano. La hermana apoya su hombro sobre su hermano y discute con su familia antes del matrimonio. Al día siguiente, ella estaría casada y quería hablar con su hermano sobre qué pasaría con su juventud, su vida y qué pasaría con ella como una mujer musulmana en Bangladesh. Ella quería tenerme en la conversación por que estaba viviendo en un pueblo dentro del país. Entonces todos sabían que había alguien que no pertenecía allí, que era un extranjero, por lo que buscaban hablar conmigo.
También algo que intento buscar en la fotografía al conocer a las personas es evitar ir a los grandes lugares. Se trata de ir a algún lado que haya una población local más fuerte. Por qué están en todos los países, no todos viven bajo la Torre Eiffel en Francia ni en la mejor parte de Buenos Aires o en la Patagonia. Se trata de buscar a la juventud real.
It was super interesting in understanding what's going on abroad. And the youth, especially in Bangladesh, had really a lot of energy and was super friendly ( I assumed that it was easier because I was part of the world as a man).
But there was a youth that was aware about what's going on in the world, constantly producing. So it's really the beginning of a generation understanding. They had a lot of things to say, to communicate, super strong energy. Before internet, very young were from religion, proud of the country, even some of them were young at the revolution and the separation between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
In a picture you have demonstration in the street. I'm in a car with those people. And even they are demonstrating, they are looking at my face. And just talked, expressed themselves, said something.
In another photo you have a couple, a brother and a sister. The sister is putting her shoulder on the brother. She was discussing with her family before marriage. The next day, she will be married. So she wanted to discuss with her brother about her youth, her life, what's going to happen to her as a Muslim woman in Bangladesh. She wanted just to have me in the conversation because I was living in a village in the country. So everyone knows that there was someone who was there, you know, and so they wanted to discuss with me.
That's also something I'm trying to look into photography, into meeting people first, is not to go to the big places. It's to go somewhere, if it's possible, and to see what's going on to the “real” place, the real people, the more common people. They are in every country, not everyone is living under the Eiffel Tower in France or in the best part of Buenos Aires as well, or in Patagonia. So that's the same everywhere. And the real youth is there.
